To Be An International Student In UK

Deciding a Location to Study and a University

The very first thing that students need to do is settle on the nation in which they wish to pursue their education. The quality of instruction, the admissions standards of the universities, the cost of living, the difficulty of obtaining a visa, the employment opportunities available, and the potential value of the student's degree when they return home to pursue a successful career are all factors that are taken into consideration.

Students generally apply to colleges and universities in more than one country in order to keep their options open; however, due to the United Kingdom's high quality of life and the excellent reputation of its educational institutions, it is one of the most popular destinations for students coming from other countries. The Post Study Work Visa (PSW), which was recently implemented, enables students to remain in the UK for a period of up to two years following the completion of their academic studies in order to find employment. This is also contributing to the rise in popularity of the UK as a location in which to pursue higher education.

After making the decision to study in the UK, students are then faced with the task of selecting a university. Because this is such an important step, it is pretty common for students in countries such as Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, or Nigeria to consult education agents for their expertise and advice on the eligibility criteria and curricula of the various courses. This is because these countries are home to some of the most competitive educational systems in the world. Agents provide assistance throughout the entirety of the application procedure, assisting students as well as their parents in comprehending technical terminology such as "organisation choice," "insurance choice," "clearance," "considerations," and so on. Their prices range anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand pounds, contingent upon the specific services that are requested. But understanding these processes is essential for an international student.

Students who have received a conditional offer from a university must continue their efforts until they meet all of the requested criteria before they can begin the visa application process. After accepting an unconditional offer from a university, students will receive their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter from the UK university and then they will be able to begin their visa application. They are unable to submit their visa application until they have received a CAS letter from the university, and the longer it takes for them to receive the letter, the more difficult the visa application process becomes.

Visa Application

International students have up to six months before the beginning of their program to submit their applications. The United Kingdom recently instituted a new points-based system, requiring students to amass 70 points in order to obtain a student visa. Students can earn 50 points by submitting a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) letter, 10 points by meeting the financial requirements, and 10 points by demonstrating proficiency in English. Due to Brexit, European Union citizens who wish to study in the United Kingdom for more than six months will need a visa. The fee for a student visa is £348 if the application is submitted from outside the UK, and £475 if submitted within the UK. Applicants must also provide fingerprints and attend an interview with an immigration officer. If applying internationally, additional documentation may be required.

International students must provide evidence that they have maintained a certain amount of money in their bank account for at least 28 days in a row prior to applying for a visa. For students who will be in the UK for at least nine months, this amount should cover their tuition fees in addition to £1,334 per month for London (£12,006 for nine months) or £1,023 per month for other cities.

Students who are bringing dependents with them are required to provide evidence that they have additional funds to sustain those dependents. Students who will be paying for their education with a loan or a scholarship are required to present documentation to verify that they will be eligible for the funding. Application requirements are evaluated differently in each nation (more details are available on the UKVI website).

In addition to the fees associated with applying for a UK student visa, international students, including those from the EU, are required to pay an Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) in order to use the NHS. This fee is calculated as follows: £470 for a period of years or £705 for one and a half years. While applying for a visa, students from a list of more than 100 countries must also produce a TB (tuberculosis) certificate in return for certain charges.
